Getting to the Topkapi Palace is pretty easy - it's centrally located at the Historical Peninsula, the Old City of Istanbul. That’s why it is easily accessible by public transport. See below the best way to get to the palace, as well as other options:
What is the best way to get to Topkapi Palace?
The best way to get to Topkapi Palace is by taking the tram - it's cheap and easy, and you'll get to see some of the city as you ride. The nearest tram station is Sultanahmet and Gülhane station. Both are a 7-minutes walk away.
From Taksim Square, you can take the funicular F1 to Kabataş. At Kabataş Station, take the tram T1 and go 7 stops to Sultanahmet Station. From there, it is just a couple of minutes to Topkapi Palace.
Topkapi Palace is only a 5-minutes walk from Sultanahmet Square. Therefore, if you are in the Sultanahmet area, you can easily walk to the palace.
The nearest train station to Topkapi Palace is Marmaray Sirkeci Station, just a 15-minute walk away. Alternatively, the closest metro station is Vezneciler station. From there, the palace gates are a 30-minute walk away.
The bus stops closest to the palace is at Sarayburnu or Akbiyik Station. Take the buses 28T, 30D, 46Ç, 47E, 99A, BN1, EM1 and get down at one of these stops. From Sarayburnu station, it is an 18-minute walk to Topkapi; from Akbiyik, it is an 11-minute walk.
If you're looking for a convenient way to get to Topkapi Palace, you might think about taking a taxi. However, we don't recommend this option because it's not easy to access the Sultanahmet area by car/taxi, and you will still have to walk a good distance when you arrive.
Since the area is not easy to access and there are no parking spaces at the Topkapi Palace premises, we do not recommend this option. Paid parking is a 10-minute walk from Topkapi Palace, so you still would have to walk quite a bit to get to the palace.
